Welcome Back to School Pencil

We the staff at Oregon Elementary are excited to welcome our parents and students back for a great 2017-2018 school year. I am extremely excited to begin my first year as Principal of Oregon Elementary

I am Alicia McMurry. I was born and raised in Alamogordo. It was 2007 that I began working in the district at Yucca Elementary. I taught Kindergarten for five years and 1st grade for three years. I became a Peer-Assisted Learning Mentor (PALM) in 2015 and enjoyed it for the last two years. I am excited to take this next path on my journey as a principal for Oregon Elementary. It is my goal to grow as an educational leader this year and encourage the learning of the students at the same time. My husband is a Kindergarten/ELA Specialist at Desert Star. We have two daughters at Alamogordo High School, one daughter at Mountain View Middle and one son at Desert Star. I love where I am in life, I love who I work for and with, and I love what I can do for kids! I am looking for to the 2017-2018 school year, and I grateful for the opportunity to serve this great school and community.  

As a PALM, I had the opportunity to work with the teachers and staff at Oregon Elementary; I have found that everyone has wonderful talents. They are enthusiastic and ready to work diligently to make sure that every student receives the best education possible.

Parental involvement is essential in the success of all students and Oregon Elementary Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is in need of rebuilding. We would like to invite and encourage our parents to join. Your input is valued and your presence is encouraged. Become an active member! More information will be sent home about our first meeting. We will be electing officers and planning for the year.

Your child’s success is our #1 priority. Please contact your student’s teacher with your comments and concerns. Timely communication is key to your child’s success. For your convenience, there is a student/parent handbook on the Alamogordo Public School web site that will answer many questions about school policies and procedures.

I welcome the opportunity to meet parents/guardians and discuss our precious students. In order to ensure I am available, I have established office hours as follows: Office Hours: Mon. - Wed. 7:30-8:00; Wed. – Fri. 3:30-4:30 & by appointment.  Please contact my secretary, Mrs. Hackworth, to schedule an appointment if you need to see me (575-812-5600). If she is not available, please leave your name and contact information. She or I will get back to you as soon as we are able.
